ROSEWHAT'S NEWEvery item now has its own TAXES switches, one for each sales tax, so an item can have GST and PST, only the city tax, or none. Categories set the defaults, you decide what myPortal vendors can change, and Fees/Taxes explains every kind of tax and fee in plain words.
Inventory, Take-in and myPortal show one switch per sales tax of the item’s location, with the total the shopper pays. Square gets exactly the taxes that are on.
In Categories, DEFAULT TAXES sets the taxes new items in the category start with. Changing them later asks whether the items already there change too, or only new items.
For each sales tax choose VENDOR CHOOSES, ALWAYS ON or ALWAYS OFF for myPortal items. Locked taxes show with a padlock and vendors can’t change them.
Fees now have plain names – STORE FEE – ONE RATE and STORE FEE – BY PRICE RANGE – with a live example. A store fee is extra money for the store: it is never split with the consignor and is not part of their commission.
For stores in Canada, the UK, Australia and other places where the store’s commission is taxed: GST / HST / VAT on the commission comes out of the consignor’s payout, with a report for what to pay.
Turning a tax off on an item takes it off the item in Square too. If someone changes an item’s taxes in the Square dashboard, Rose copies the change back.
No. An item that had APPLY TAX ticked keeps every tax of its location until you change its switches or its category’s default taxes.
Rose asks: CHANGE THE ITEMS TOO updates the category’s items that use its taxes (and sends them to Square again), NEW ITEMS ONLY keeps the taxes the current items have.
No. The fee is added on top of the consignor’s price, so the shopper pays it, and the store keeps all of it. The consignor’s split is worked out on the price without the fee.
Most US stores don’t. It is for places where the store’s commission is a taxable service to the consignor (for example GST/HST in Canada or VAT in the UK). Ask your accountant if you’re not sure.
Nothing – it was saved but never used. It is now TAX ON STORE COMMISSION and does what its explanation says, so check that any old one you have is right (or delete it) before your next sales are posted.
